On Tuesday, Aug. 8 at approximately 6:00 p.m., a number of 911 calls were received regarding a head-on collision on Main Street near Bolton Spring Farm, where one car drifted over the median line into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Bolton Police say Main Street traffic on the east side of town was shut down for about 30 minutes. Two people were critically injured and were taken by ambulance to the hospital. Both cars were towed; one driver was cited for a marked lanes violation and operating to endanger. The incident remains under investigation.
On arrival, it was discovered that the vehicle had not overturned, but had been travelling westbound on Rt. 117 when it crossed fully over into the eastbound lane and exited the roadway on the wrong side, proceeded down the embankment, and collided with several trees in the swampy area. The operator, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was fortunately unharmed. The vehicle was hoisted out by crane due to concerns of fuel tank rupturing, and traffic was reduced down to one lane for about an hour during recovery operations. The driver will be summonsed for negligent operation of a motor vehicle.”
