Saturday, April 23, 9 a.m. to noon: Gravestone Rubbing MakerDay; Brendan Sullivan from the Gravestone Girls will give a lesson on local cemetery history and lead patrons in gravestone rubbing. SPRING SERVICE CLOTHING DRIVE
Students at Emerson and Florence Sawyer Schools will hold a clothing drive between March 27 and April 8 to benefit the organization Cradles to Crayons as part of “Project 351,” a statewide youth-driven service organization that “unites an eighth-grade ambassador from every city and town in Massachusetts for a transformative year of leadership development, enrichment, and impact.”
The beneficiary of this clothing drive, Cradles to Crayons, is a Massachusetts nonprofit organization that “provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive—at home, at school and at play.”
Residents can support the clothing drive by donating children’s gently used or like-new clothing and shoes at the Florence Sawyer/Emerson School lobbies (100 Mechanic St., Bolton). FLORENCE SAWYER SCHOOL MUSICAL
The Florence Sawyer School Drama Society will present “Once Upon a Mattress,” a musical based on “The Princess and the Pea” story, on April 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. at the school’s auditorium, 100 Mechanic St. in Bolton. Tickets are $7 at the door, or they can be reserved by email at [email protected]. The show intermission will feature concessions and a raffle.
REP. HOGAN OFFICE HOURS IN BOLTON
State Representative Kate Hogan will host office hours in Bolton on Thursday, April 14, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Bolton Public Library, 738 Main St. in Bolton. All are invited to stop by with any questions or ideas.
Rep. Hogan represents the Third Middlesex District, which includes the towns of Bolton, Hudson, Maynard, and Stow. She currently serves as the House chair on the Joint Committee on Public Health. She also serves as co-chair of the Legislature’s Elder Caucus and Chair of the Library Caucus.
Meetings will be on a first-come, first-served basis. BOLTON’S 2016 ANNUAL CLEAN-UP
Bolton is kicking off its annual “Clean-Up” week starting on Saturday, April 16. All residents are asked to clean up the litter along the road in front of their homes. For those choosing to take the collected trash to the Transfer Station, no sticker will be required if you let the Transfer Station attendants know you are helping to “clean up Bolton.” Otherwise, the Department of Public Works will pick up collected trash bags left at the end of driveways on Monday, April 25. (Recyclables should be left in clear or white bags.) For more information about Bolton’s Clean-Up and/or to volunteer to assist in special areas around town, call Mary Boyd at 978-779-2740. For those who don’t have their own collection bags, yellow bags will be available at the Bolton Public Safety Building.
NRHS VOLLEYBALL CLINIC
Nashoba Regional High School will hold a volleyball clinic for boys and girls grades 7 to 10. Anyone interested in trying the sport or looking to brush up on some skills is encouraged to attend. The clinic will run Monday, April 18, through Wednesday, April 20 at Nashoba Regional High School, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Cost is $40 for those who preregister; $45 for those who register at the start of the clinic. WEATHER TALK AT SENIOR CENTER
April’s Tuesday Connections program, sponsored by Friends of Bolton Seniors, will feature Danielle Vollmar, WCVB-TV Channel 5’s Storm Team 5 meteorologist, presenting “Let’s Talk About the Weather.” The program will be held Tuesday, April 19, from 11a.m. to 1p.m. at the Bolton Senior Center, 600 Main St. in Bolton. CAR WORKS CHECK FOR SENIORS
CarFit, for Seniors will be presented Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to noon at Davis Hall, 673 Main St. in Bolton. The program, sponsored by Friends of Bolton Seniors, will offer a quick, yet comprehensive, 12-point check of how well you and your car work together. BOLTON LOCAL FILM SCREENING
Bolton Local will host a screening of the award-winning documentary, “A Will for the Woods,” on Tuesday, April 26, 7 p.m., at the Bolton Public Library, 738 Main St. in Bolton.
This one-hour film, which aired on the PBS AmericaReframed series, follows the final months of the life of a terminally-ill man as he plans his own green burial, ensuring his last act is a gift to the planet. Following the film, Candace Currie from Mount Auburn Cemetery, Green Burial Massachusetts and the Green Burial Council, will speak about natural burial options in Massachusetts and will answer questions from the audience.

The First Parish of Bolton invites all Bolton residents to participate in the church’s annual clothing sale on Friday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. They accpet gently used women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, as well as shoes and accessories. Household goods such as small appliances, china, and decorative items also sell well.
Consigners earn 70 percent of the sale of their items; the church receives the balance. All shoppers obtain quality items at bargain prices!
