A Thank you to the Supporters of Open Space

Leading up to the Special Town Meeting on November 28, Sudbury Valley Trustees had the pleasure of working with a dedicated group of Bolton residents who were working toward a town purchase of Camp Virginia. Although the proposal was defeated, SVT would like to acknowledge these dedicated citizens, as well as those who came out to vote in favor of the acquisition at the Special Town Meeting, with thanks for their support of open space.

The citizen’s group worked tirelessly to explore options for protecting the camp and to share information about the project with their neighbors. Thanks to their efforts, more than 300 residents signed the petition that made the Special Town Meeting possible. Even though the article failed to gain the required 2/3 majority needed to pass, a simple majority of attendees stood in favor of open space and expressed a desire to protect Camp Virginia. This strong showing leaves hope for future conservation projects.

For 65 years Sudbury Valley Trustees has been partnering with municipal governments, local land trusts, community groups and individual land owners to conserve land for wildlife and people in 36 towns surrounding the Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord Rivers. The population growth in communities throughout this region is putting unprecedented pressure on land and water resources.

This sprawl is also eroding the semi-rural beauty that defines the special character of our region. To address this problem, residents of each community will need to find ways to balance the need for development with the desire to protect open space for the public. If choices are made with foresight and knowledge, healthy communities are possible.

Sudbury Valley Trustees remains a ready partner in efforts to conserve land and protect open space in Bolton and its neighboring towns.

Sincerely,

Ashley Davies, Senior Land Protection Specialist, Sudbury Valley Trustees

Thank you from Newly Elected State Senator Dean Tran

I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the voters of the Worcester and Middlesex District for electing me to the state Senate. I am honored and humbled that you have placed your trust in me. I will work tirelessly on your behalf to seek solutions to our many challenges and problems.

My victory was made possible by the outpouring of diverse grassroots supporters, friends, family and the many campaign volunteers who all want to secure a lasting and meaningful improvement to our quality of life.

Not only am I thankful for your support, but also for all elected and public officials who serve the District and advance the issues of importance in their cities and towns.   It is not easy to put oneself out there these days, so I give credit to those with the initiative to do so.

Again, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!  I would also like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a healthy New Year.

Regards,

Dean Tran
